USB1 vs 2

My QuickSilver, 867MHz G4 has just USB1 port. Can I add a USB2 External Drive though it might run slower than it's really capable of?

For Mac, use firewire for external drives.

It's the native method and you'll like the results.

USB1 vs 2

Yes, thanks. But if I have a DV Camera on the firewire, doesn't that pose a problem?

My choice? A firewire hub.

Same dollar as USB 2.0 cards if your machine could take such.

FireWire is the way to go for Macs

It is more stable than USB on the Mac and has much less overhead in terms of processor use.
You can daisy chain the Firewire devices with no effect on your DV camera. The camera, of course, will be the last thing on the chain as it almost certainly does not have a pass through connector.
If you must go with USB, I would consider a combo card, USB 2.0 and Firewire on the same card.
Remember, you already have 2 Firewire 400 ports.

You will need to upgrade to a Tango 2.0 Firewire/USB 1.1/2.0 PCI Combo Adapter Card from Sonnet, sonnettech.com
Just did this on my Quicksilver server last fall. I cannot remember the cost. You will also need a 4-port USB2 Hub from Belkin. About $30.
Just upgrade and you will be fine. I did and it works great.
