Question

USB Wifi Adaptors

Mar 28, 2020 1:08PM PDT

Hello,

I recently built a new computer and want to connect it to the internet, Out home router is too far away so Ethernet is not an option as well as I do not want to install a wifi card. What USB wifi adaptors are the best at what they do? Do my PC components matter as well? I will be using this machine for School work & light gaming. I will post my PC components below.

- Ryzen 5 1600
- Tomahawk B450
- 16 Gb of DDR4 memory
- Sapphire RX 580
- 450 GB SSD from ADATA
- Gold certified 650 + Watt EVGA PS

I don't it making any difference.

Sadly if the router is too far for Ethernet (which can go easily to 100 Meters) then this is too far for WiFi. Please tell how far this is as it would be a shame to buy anything WiFi if Ethernet does not work.

As home and office we have some dozen different USB WiFi adapters and they pretty much all perform the same. That said I link the ones that look like this one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6BN1SV/

At distances I'm guessing here since you didn't tell we stick with the 2.4GHZ channels so this one is my goto at the office for 50 foot reaches.

I seem to have wrded that poorly,

What I mean by the route being too far away is that is on the opposite end of a hallway. Spanning an Ethernet cable through a hallway would not be very functional as well as difficult to conceal. I thank you both for your suggestions on the adaptors, I looked at the USB adaptor from WinnerEco & seeing as it is USB I will consider purchasing it.

-Thank you

So how far is it?

Across a hall and I'd be shopping the normal dual band adapters rather that 2.4 GHz only because, it's not as far as I was lead to believe.
