Question

USB shutting down computer

Jan 14, 2014 11:23PM PST

I recently got a new HP Envy 8 desktop. I am wanting to upload all my miniDv videos onto my hard drive from my old camcorder. I bought a firewire adapter to be able to send the video into my desktop since there is no firewire input. The firewire plugs into the adapter and the adapter goes into a USB port. When I go to plug it in the computer shuts down. I can use the same USB port for other things (memory sticks, chargers) but this adapter shuts the computer down. ANy ideas?

There has never been a working Firewire to USB adapter cable. Since you omitted what that part was I'm going to write that's a ripoff and you need to stop using it before you damage the USB ports.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I was not aware. Much appreciated.
Do you know of a good way to get those old miniDV tapes onto my computer?

The usual. Install a Firewire card.

Sorry if this seems short but the times folk ask for Firewire to USB cables is legendary and done to a crisp.
