USB removeable device stopped working??

May 23, 2005 1:50AM PDT

I recently got a Kingsport USB removeable drive 256 megs. The day I got it, I simply plugged it into the USB port, windows found the driver (didn't even need to use the CD it came with)..And it worked fine. This was Saturday, yesterday I plug it in, worked ok, and then drive F vanished?? I unplugged the device, plugged it back in, and the device does nothing? I double checked the port by plugging in my I-POD, that works fine? What should I do?

Win XP Home
SP2
Dell

I don't reccomend it. Here's why.

The other machines you tried it out on failed too. Unless you think all those USB ports are bad?

I've seen people break many machines over a dead component like this.

-> Go ahead, but be sure you can undo what you do.

UPDATE....
May 23, 2005 6:12AM PDT

Ok, I plugged this thing into another port on my work PC, and wallah!! XP found the device, and installed the driver..However when I tried to send a document to the device by right clicking and selecting the drive (E) I get this error:

Make sure you specify correct path & file name.

When I went to the device itself and tried to make a "NEW FOLDER". I got this error:

Unable to create the folder, The system cannot find the file specified...

Try a command window and simpler commands.

Just

FORMAT F:

No slashes and a space after the FORMAT word. Next I would try the DISK MANAGEMENT tool (use Start, Help and Support to find it) and see if it notes the drive.
