Question

USB Ports- Windows 7 64bit

Dec 28, 2014 4:34PM PST

I just upgraded a Panasonic CF-53J from Windows 7 32bit to Windows 7 64bit. It is a bit beyond my skill set, so I passed the computer off to a friend who assured me that all drivers were installed and working correctly. However, I have lost functionality on two of the four USB ports. The two in the back work just fine, but two on the side do not. Within Device Manager, I have seven items listed as not functioning properly:
-2 listed as PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller
-1 listed as SM Bus Controller
-1 listed as USB Controller
-3 listed as Unknown device

I need to get this PC up and running asap. Can anyone help?

It certainly seems that some drivers (the motherboard drivers) aren't installed. So either find them (for the 64-bit OS), or go back to what you had and what worked.

Doing things beyond your skill set is somewhat risky. Let's hope that making an image backup before doing this install was inside your skill set.

Understood. This is my problem. I know that I need to find the new drivers for the 64-bit OS, but don't know how to go about finding them. I do an automatic search and Windows cannot find them.

If you can't find them on the Panasonic support site, call them.

If their customer service can't help you either, consider it a dead end and go back to 32-bit. If it's advertised as having the option to have more than 4 GB RAM (that needs the 64-bit OS), see if you can return it.

Long story, but the only option is to get this working in 64.

I agree it's probably drivers

and you'll need to get those from Panasonic. It appears that some of the Toughbook models have 2 USB-2 ports and 2 USB-3 ports. My guess is that your USB-3 ports are the ones at issue. Visit the Panasonic site for your model and look to see if 64 bit drivers are available for USB-3.
