Question

USB Ports Not Working.

Sep 16, 2015 8:51AM PDT

I have a Lenovo T440P with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate. None of the USB ports will work. I checked the device manager and none of them have an exclamation mark. Any clues?

Answer
All true.

A fresh install won't have drivers specific to this PC. Nothing has changed on this, it's the same old routine of post Windows drivers and app installs. These are specific to each model so only the maker may have a step by step.

But as you wrote above a lot of things won't work.

Do you think that it's time for this issue to end? That is, we see Linux versions that don't have folk hunting for drivers. Why not Windows?

Also, why is this news? That is, this scenario is repeated daily.

All False

Obviously I installed all of the drivers or I wouldn't even be able to connect to the internet. As stated above, in the device manager all of the drivers are there and none have an exclamation point over them.

I don't think it's time for this issue to end. But thanks.

What sort of install did you do? Using manufacturer discs? Or the restore paritition?

If you are on the affected computer or using another to contact the forum. Now we know.

The lack of the mark in device manager means not much.

Tell me exactly which drivers you installed and how. The driver update in Windows has not worked on many machines for years.

You seem to be repeating a common refrain. Let's hear more and be sure to test in a complete OS like Linux.

Does it show any device being plugin at all even though it may not read it.
