As such I must lock such a discussion as no support can be given for such a thing. If you feel like knowing why, please call Microsoft and ask if they will offer support for this.
Yes I have the knowledge about this but the forum rules forbid discussion and support for "XP Black."
Compaq Presario SR1130NX, AMD processor, windows XP. 2G upgrade. USB ports worked fine until recently after I wiped the hard drive and installed XP Black. after installation anything plugged into USB ports causes PC to freeze almost instantly. Both front and back USB's cause freezing. Doesn't matter what's plugged in. 80G external hard drive, small 512 flash drives, Camera, Optical Mouse, anything. It freezes within a minute or so of being plugged in.. sometimes even faster. Have downloaded drivers for USB's and also new drivers for Sony Cybershot camera.. Nothing works. Have been one with HP/Compaq tech support for hours doing this and doing that. What other options do I have? Anyone else had this problem and got it resolved? I sure need my USB's. I've lost massive amounts of data in the last two months because of freezing and having to power off to reboot. The last time this happened, windows would not reboot. It kept trying to reboot but would only get to the window with the options to choose safe mode or not and regardless of which option you chose, it would go to restart again and back to same window over and over again. I lost massive data on that one because I had no chance to back anything up. After that fiasco I installed Windows XP Media Edition. Still no USB ports working.
I'd sincerely apprecaite some help from anyone who is truly knowledgeable about this problem. Currently backing up entire PC to Carbonite to save what files I have left from data loss again.
Thank you and have a great holiday season,
