Resolved Question

USB port in the base of a lamp

Nov 12, 2016 7:51PM PST

I have an inexpensive desk lamp with a USB port in the base (5V DC, 1A). It has no directions, other than those numbers and saying it "powers phones, tablets & more." I don't have wifi. Does this mean it would charge a phone ? Does the lamp need to be turned on while the phone is charging?
Thanks. Please excuse my lack of knowledge about this.

if it is before the on/off switch for lamp then it will charge when lamp is off. If after, then most likely not. It will not hurt to plug your phone in and see if the charging icon comes on

It should charge any usb device but it may be slower depending on the device requirements.

USB port in the base of a lamp

Thanks a lot for your quick answer, renegade600 ! I don't know what
you meant by referring to whether the port was "before or after"
the on/off switch. The switch is on the horizontal surface of the
lamp base and the port is on the vertical side of the base, one-fourth
of the way around the circular base from the switch. But, the upshot is that it charges whether or not the lamp is on ! I really appreciate that you said it wouldn't hurt my phone to try it. I'm new at this, and harming the device is always my concern.

You did a good deed today ! Have a cookie or something.
