If I wanted to try something I would reach into my kit bag for an older USB 1.x hub. I make no apology for makers here but I've found this to cure the issue you noted. But finding such hubs is a challenge today.

For computer geeks this query may seem prehistoric...
I have a 10-year-old iMac, system OS E1 - 9.0.4
256MB hard disk.
When I connect the keyboard (a Microsoft one) and the mouse, these take up the two available USB sockets.
I have tried using a hub with more USB outlets (an OvisLink, H41-USB2). But when I connect the keyboard or mouse via the hub, nothing works.
How can I get the hub to function so I can use a printer etc.? Must I get a new hub or some other accessory?
