Question

Usb hub connection Tv/Laptop or Wd my cloud / 2 external hdd

Oct 9, 2018 6:02AM PDT

Hello guys.I am on a wierd situation and i cant find a solution for it.
I have buy 1 android smart tv and i want to connect this one with a usb hub with my other 2 external hdd and wd my cloud with that usb hub but i cant make this connection. If i connect the cable of hub directly to tv i can see the 2 external hdd but the wd my cloud connected to hub with a usb a male to male is not seeing the hdds so i cant transfer data to them.I have buy also this usb link : ICZI USB 3.0 Datenkabel, hochgeschwindigkeits PC zu PC USB Datenkabel, Datenaustausch zwischen 2 Computern, Vernickelt, Schwarz, für Windows und Mac, 1.5m (USB 3.0) https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01IVP5B2W/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_NykVBbSFD2NAB

But it seem some drivers need to be installed on both machines for exemple if i want to connect 2 laptop via this cable i need the software to be installed on both... so imposible for me because wd my cloud cant install the drivers.
Ok is any solution to use a usb hub to connect all of this?
Thanks

As far as I can see a wd my cloud is just an external disk. So I don't see what you mean with "the wd my cloud is not seeing the other disks". How can a disk see another disk?

It is not a full up PC. You should find limitations like this.

The situation you wrote about is quite unclear.

What is connected to what and how? Please make a full and detailed sketch, with a link to a picture like that on a site like imgur or dropbox. And tell exactly what works and what doesn't.

TV

I will explain.Hub have 8 ports. The hub usb cable is connected to TV.On first port of the hub i have connected 1st Hdd , second port i have connected the 2nd hdd.
On 3rd port of the hub i wanted to connect the laptop with this cable : https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00P0E39CM/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_bKBVBbEY8TX25 who is a usb 3.0 cable male to male.
That didnt work so i search on internet and i found out i will need a bridge usb cable and i order this : https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01IVP5B2W/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_fMBVBbX8SRPD2
But this one also dont work because i must install a driver.I can install the driver on windows but on TV i cant because is android and they dont have android drivers.
Why i want to connect them? Because TV LAN is just 100mbps and when i watch a 4K UHD HDR movie is working with stops every 3-5 seconds.I have try same movie on usb3 and working without stops. That why i want to connect the TV to HDDs and laptop also so i can transfer the movies from laptop to HDDs and after to watch them on TV

Suggestions for alternatives:
- copy movie from your laptop to a USB3-stick and put that in your hub when it's transferred. Even better: download it directly to that USB3-stick
- use your laptop as a DLNA server, see https://www.howtogeek.com/215400/how-to-turn-your-computer-into-a-dlna-media-server/
- use your TV as a monitor via it's hdmi input
- cast the movie from your laptop to the TV via WiFi
- use the cloud feature of your wd cloud to access it via Ethernet or WiFi

Kees i already did that. But is impractical. So is no solution to connected them all to hub?
Also like i said i can put movie on cloud but because the limited 100mbps of my tv lan high quality movies i see them with stop because i need a higher bandwidth.

That's my bet.

The NAS (not like a PC!) has limitations so you should encounter issues when you use some USB HUB and put drives there. The last NAS I used with USB ports allowed me to put drives on the NAS USB ports but I didn't try USB HUBs because I know this is usually a time sink. Never works.
