USB Help with XP

Due to a bad soundcard I have to use an external USB soundcard on my laptop. Unfortunately it tends to unplug easily so there is a lot of plugging/unplugging (I know this is bad and I should get an extender cable, but too late now).

Recently, when I plug the USB device in, my computer says "USB Device Not Recognized". It had been working fine for weeks before.

I have tried uninstalling my all the "USB Root Hubs" in the device manager (including the one called "unknown device).

I have also tried turning off my computer, unplugging and taking out the battery for 30min.

Adding hardware in Control panels does not work either.

Any advice would be greaty appricated!

Thanks for the help, but those tips didn't do the trick

I tried uninstalling the driver, but when I restart and plug the USB device in again it is still "unrecognized" even though it was working fine before.

Any other advice? Thanks!

You might give this a try.

Disable the Selective Suspend feature of the USB hub driver. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD.
4. Type DisableSelectiveSuspend, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6. Type 1, and then click OK.

OR, Even tho it is very unlikely it has changed you could also check the BIOS and see if there is a setting for USB to be enabled.

If you have the MOBO drivers try re-installimg them.
