USB flash drive not woking proberly

Sep 21, 2007 6:06AM PDT

i had a flash memory drive (Apacer Handy Steno AH220)of 256m capacity and my operating system is XP pro and it was working very well except since a few days i left the drive connected to my PC for few days and then i had a strang problem as i was trying to copy some files to it i had a message that there is no enough space to store and i checked the properities of the drive i found that it is half capaciy and when i tried to erase the data or format it i got a message that is write protected and when i tried to remove this write protection it fails and more strange i found that other folders on disktop are also write protected and i was unable to change this also , virus checking using norton was free, can any one tell me what is the problem and how it can be solved

First try it on another PC.

Then try a new stick. These things have limited life spans and your story is not unlike what I read when the stick fails.

So new sticks are failing?

That's bad. I'd install a new PCI USB 2.0 card and use those new connections.

some types of flash drive are weite once to use as backups for windows, so check what type you got. Also, if you are copying system folders or aplications, that would be the problem also
