USB flash drive doesnt show full capacity

Feb 22, 2007 3:15PM PST

When I click on my drive in my computer it only shos something like 49mb when it is a 256MB drive. I format it and stays the same capacity. How do I get my full storage back?

I have a stick that boots Linux and it shows that size. Yup, it's a 256MB stick. I have yet to undo that so I can't tell you how to except to note that such procedures are all over the internet.

My suggestion is to use the maker's initialization tool if possible.

There is also one other possibility. There is a container load of usb drives that were fakes. They were marked 4GB but only had a 64MB flash memory chip onboard. These were sold in the usual back alleys and ebay and people are asking how to get them to full size. No hope there.
