usb ethernet adapter with vista working improperly

Nov 11, 2009 9:09PM PST

Hello, I am having a problem getting my belkin F5D5050 usb ethernet adapter to work properly on my dell inspiron 1525 laptop, running vista. It is my daughter's machine and the ethernet port became distorted somehow. I spoke with dell chat service and was told to buy the belkin adapter from them. When I went to install it the instructions said it was compatible with all os except vista. It referred me to a belkin/driver website and I installed the adm 8511. I have since tried to find an appropriate driver but this one keeps coming up. It works for a while but eventually a blue screen appears and the system shuts down and all work is lost. It restarts ok but the cycle repeats. Is there a better driver or perhaps a card type adapter? Thank you in advance

Thank you for the advice, I'm sure it is due however the blue screen references the driver. I can't give you the exact wording at this point, as I said it is my daughter's machine. I am awaiting that info. I was wondering if a pcmcia card might be a better choice?

Sure. Try that.

The problem I have is that I know that malware can form a bad packet and crash the driver. This issue is well known to folk that have been in the trenches for years.

But let's say your right. Go get a PCMCIA card. My bet is that it's really a PC-Card.

And the canned air?

Be sure to give the air vents a blast. If no dust or lint is seen or is blown out I'd be amazed.
