USB error

Jul 18, 2010 12:46PM PDT

Hey,

I have a PNY 4GB usb that has stopped working. It appears to the computer as 0.0 mb and when I try to click on it, it says "please insert disk into drive E:". I have tried formating it though right clicking and Disk Management, saying there is no data and doesn't list the option respectively.

I believe the source of the problem is a software error. I had made the usb a Linux live CD (Knoppix 5.1.1) thou it ever worked and had the problem. The USB worked before when I installed Knoppix 6.2.1 on it.

Please help and Thank you in advance.
=)

Since you installed linus to said USB drive

And linux could run from said drive all that I see here is it is too likely you need to catch up on how things work. There is a few steps or maybe just one before we can format a drive whether it is USB or a hard drive.

It's called partitioning but let's just skip all that and if you run XP look up HP USB FORMATTER on google.

Try that next.

Still doesn't work

Hey, thanks for the quick response.

I have already tried this method and it didn't work. It said 'There is no media in the specified port." It displays the flashdrive (and there is no other option).

And I apologize for the incorrect word terminology.

Is their another solution?

Flash drives do fail.

Do other drives work? Then it's just another failed drive.

I agree, some USB drives flat out fail at the most undesirable times. It can be odd when they do, but it does happen. You can try on another PC or several and if the results remain the same, its the USB drive. There is nothing can do as I've found anything that can make it work or recover.

If you haven't already, clean the drive contacts.
