USB-connection-Seagate-Hard drive problem

Sep 18, 2006 11:42AM PDT

My xp-home computer stopped recognizing the USB connection of my two 300GB Seagate external hard drives, for no apparent reason. The firewire connections still work. I got another 300GB Seagate. The USB connection worked for a few days, then stopped, like the others. Firewire works, like the others. Tried various cables and ports. I borrowed a couple of other Seagates, and their USB connections work, so far. So I have three USB-connections that don't work, and two that do. Could there be viruses on the three that don't work? I scanned them with Trend Micro, but found nothing. Are there any Windows Updates that might help?
