Question

USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE cable doesn't match HD

Nov 23, 2014 5:10PM PST

I have 2 laptop hard drives and one desktop hard drive from which I'm going to try to retrieve some files. PCs are down but hard drives still work (I think).

I just received a "USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE cable". Here's what it has:

44 pin connector for the 2 & 1/2" drive for laptops.
A Sata connector for the 3 & 1/2" drives.
40 pin 3 & 1/2" IDE connector.

No indicator for showing activity of the hard drive or reset button.

Here's my problem. I have a Toshiba harddrive (MQO1ABF050 500 GB)

It has no 44 pin connector for the 2 & 1/2" drive for laptops.
It has no Sata connector for the 3 & 1/2" drives.
It has no 40 pin 3 & 1/2" IDE connector.

I hope I can describe what I see on the end of the bottom of the HD.

There is one group of gold *pins, 15 in a group on the left, 7 in a group to the right of those and then on the far right, 4 gold pins (These 4 are actually pins.)

I wrote *pins because they look like pins until you look at them from the end and I can see that they are actually flat and they are embedded in a thin layer of plastic. The same goes for the group of 7.

None of them match up with any slots on the "USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE cable".

Any ideas of where I can get something that fits a Toshiba HD?

Thanks

Woke up this morning and I found out that I'm a complete idiot.

Got it all put together in the correct manner. (I think)

Hard drive is quietly humming so I know it's working. (I think)

Put in USB but nothing is showing up as another drive.

What could I be doing wrong now?

Thanks
