USB 2.0 Hard Drive Troubleshooting

Jan 16, 2005 2:12AM PST

Hi, Thanks in advance to any one who takes the time to read this.
A few years ago i bought an Archos Multimedia 20(http://reviews.cnet.com/Archos_Jukebox_Multimedia_20_W_photo_module/4505-6490_7-20349561.html?tag=pdtl-list)
and the battery died so i ripped it apart and took out the hard drive. My computer is having trouble with the power supply so i have to send it in to hp. Before i send it i want to back up my files onto this drive. I bought a U.S.B
2.0 hard drive enclosure. I works fine with 2 of my computers (XP Home) but not with the HP laptop that i need to get the files off of (also XP Home). On my other two computer the driver installs automatically, but on my third computer it recognizes that its a usb mass storage device, and then it says "searching for driver" then it just stops. it says "error code 10" but doesnt give me any more information. Now besides the fact that xp has most drivers built into it, i know for a fact that it has this one because the drive is the same as the one in my third computer. The drive in the archos is a hitachi hdk23da-20 (20gb). The drive in my computer is an hdk23da-40 (40gb). The other error message that is get is a normal one (my device can perform faster with usb 2.0) because i have 1.1 in my computer. Thanks in advance to any one who took the time to read this. Any ideas on how to get the drive to install. Thanks again -Matt
