US map for mio168

Aug 12, 2005 10:48AM PDT

Hi all
I am using Japanese version of Miomap and wanting to have US miomap. Where can I buy US miomap software and will it work with Japanese version of Mio168?

Complications...
Aug 12, 2005 2:38PM PDT

I did a little research and found that Mio Technologies creates a US verson of the Mio168, and produces North American maps for it...very good sign. Since the hardware is the same, and software is written in the universal language, you should be able to load the US maps without any problems.

Unfortunately, I ran into a rather large speedbump....the American site states that the maps of North America are preinstalled, but don't mention how to purchase any maps. I checked a few international sites (and links they provided), but they only only give information on how to purchase European maps. Their site also stated that most of their maps come from Navteq, and that you can obtain more information from that site...but a search of their site revealed no information about Mio Technologies or their devices. Thus, I'd suggest contacting Mio Tech's support center (US phone support or European e-mail) for information about obtaining US maps for your Mio168. They should be able to direct you to a retailer that sells their software, as well as verify that the maps will function correctly.

Hope this helps,
John

Thank you for your information and also I realized that Mio technology is only offering European map. I think only difference of Japanese and US version of Mio168 should be Mask ROM of software pre-installed and Miomap is one of them. Other than that I think no problem to run US map in japanese version of Mio168.
I will contact local Mio technology (Mitac) for obtaining US miomap. Thanks again for your help.
