US Gov't and media 'pony up' $1.6 mil

Jun 2, 2006 1:24PM PDT

Remember the Wen Ho Lee and Los Alamos National Lab news in the late '90s over a missing computer hard drive and classified material.

Lee has reached an agreement with the US Government and several news agencies for a settlement of $1.6 mil, in an invasion of privacy suit.

Possibly this will stand to tell the government to "keep their big mouth shut", and the media to pay attention to what they report.

It's interesting that the agreement includes a stipulation that none of the government money can go into Lee's pocket. It can be used to pay for legal fees, etc. No such restriction on the media's share of the settlement.
