In starting up IE, I get a "Explorer has caused an error in URLMON.DLL. Explorer will now close". It seems to affect viewing videos. A little help, please??

1. Use SYSTEM RESTORE to when it worked.

2. Consider you didn't tell any story or history as to what lead up to this issue.

3. http://www.google.com/search?&q=URLMON.DLL
Ignore the "Sponsored" links, but do tell what you have done to fix your issue. What research have you done?

4. http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers2.htm#urlmon
Follow the steps supplied. Very easy and safe.

Could your post have a minor typo? Explorer is not Internet Explorer and if so, some of my answers may be slightly off target.

I did try the System Restore back to the day before it started, which didn't help. The only thing that I had done right before the problem presented itself, was to click a link to a video (fire dept related).

As far as the difference between IE and Explorer, all I can tell you is that when I try to start up IE, this window appears, which simply has the heading "Explorer'..I don't know what more I can add, other then that now when I do try to see a video, it simply doesn't play. That's my story, and I'm stickin to it! <BG>

Title vs. error message.

It's all in the details. Some videos require a WMP 9 CODEC package from Microsoft, some will want Divx.

Always fun to find it.

Bob, I guess that makes some sense to me, but being a "novice" at best on here, it doesn't really address the current problem...or does it. If it does, I simply don't understand the solution...if there is one.

What has been done?

In my first response was a note to try some safe and simple procedures. Such as clearing the TIF. If you didn't read the supplied links, then please backtrack and consider it.

Without you doing anything, your problem will remain.

Moving beyond the first response items, we get to tackle PARASITES. http://forums.techguy.org/t149362/s167955b25827278d15422f4b068a0a0f.html notes it as they eject COOL WEB (pests.)

Here's a bit more on that:
Parasite removal programs.

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 notes the five scanning tools and removal tools that are fairly safe. If one does encounter an issue, its always been damage done by the MALWARE. The most common issue being Layered Service Provider replacement which you can use LSPFIX (Hint: use http://www.google.com to find).

The thread has follow on discussions about new links if you don't want to use Google to find an item.

PS. All the tools are free.
PPS. Do tell what work you are doing.

So far, no...but I'm still trying some of the suggestions made. I'll try to get back to you if I get it worked out.

I jst started having this problem two days ago as well. The only new piece of software I loaded was an update to ZoneAlarm (the freeware version).
The problem was also intermittent.

To initially get around this, I opened IE by running my windows update and then continued browsing as usual.

Interestingly, this problem was ocurring when my homepage was set to www.msn.com. I switched to another homepage and have not had this problem yet. Any connection, anyone?
