Question

Urgent: Steel nut taped against VGA connector to ground?

Mar 26, 2016 5:22PM PDT

Hi,
I don't know much about laptops or grounding but my mic was making a loud buzzing noise when my laptop was plugged into the wall. I noticed that when I put my finger against the VGA input (where you can plug in a monitor) on the side of my laptop, close to where the power comes in, the buzzing in my mic completely stopped. I now have a steel nut taped to the VGA input and the mic buzzing is gone! Is this dangerous or am I safe to keep it there?

What is the mains voltage there? I'd be unhappy using this. I'm no electrician mind.

This only works when I'm touching the metal ... sorry. Is there a way to ground the electricity besides touching the vga input?
