Urgent question regarding Mini DV Firewire/USB capabilities

Jun 19, 2005 12:48PM PDT

I am thinking of purchasing a Mini DV camera and have been told that I can only transfer my footage from the camera to the computer using a firewire cable, and not a USB 2.0 cable. Is this true, and if so why do all these mini DV cameras come with USB instead of firewire cables? Thanks for your help!

Secondly, if I decide to buy a DVD camera instead of a DV, how do I edit this footage? Thanks again!

The answer is marketing.

If you don't understand the answer, that's ok. It's a weird issue and you can complain all you want but for most miniDV cameras, you'll get firewire if you want video.

No amount of complaining will change this.

I think it is because USB cables are low cost and Firewire cables are not so low cost. Or it could be a plot between the camera compines and the cable companies. John
