Titue,
If you're running this program from a CD, the CD-Rom could be faulty. Have you tried copying the contents of the CD to a separate folder on your desktop, then double clicking the "setup.exe" file inside the folder to install the program?
The link below might fix your issue:
'The install Shield engine 'ikernel.exe' could not be launched - Error loading type library / dll'?
Because Service Pack 2 on Windows XP installs a new Windows Installer 3.0, and it also updates many different files, you might consider upgrading to SP2. Although there are no guarantees, it should fix the issue.
Frequently, it's a problem with the Install Shield of a particular program and is no fault of your's or the machines.
HOpe this helps.

or....how can I get a new one????
also posted this in utilities but I AM a newbie and I AM deperate - so please forgive me.....
I am having an impossible time installing the driver for a tablet.
I bought it some 10 months ago but have not been able to find time to
install it until now (work commitments). As a plug-and-play device it works fine as a
mouse.
When I attempt to install the driver I get a message saying:
\"uninstaller setup failed to initialize. You may not be able to
uninstall this product\".
It then attempts to install to the relevent files, and even reaches
100%. However I then get a message stating there is an error and the
program has had to shut down - so no driver ends up on my hard disk!
Installshield has given me one or two problemss in the past, usually for
cheap/free downloaded programs. However I have installed other pieces of
software over this weekend with no problems! I have tried to update
installshield (easier said than done!), and have looked and downloaded
the relevent engine from the installshield site with no benefit! I do the usual turn off the antivirus etc - no good. The worst thing is i sthat after contacting the supplier, I tried to install it on a 6 year old machine with win98 - and it worked!! Aaahh.
The other odd thing I have is a symbol for the tablet on my bottom left taskbar - which I cannot delete, nor can I activate.....help!
Is it posible to find installshield somewhere in case it is my system that is the problem? Any advice will be gratefully received
Thanks in advance
(I have a 2 year old Dell dimension 4550 with win XP, 2.6GHz and ! mb RAM )
