Upscale Cardboard Box?

The Push Button House

A push of a button that makes a compact shipping container pop open into a furnished and functional home? Only in science fiction?

No, it?s practical fact, on terra firma among the art at the Venice Biennale, the Italian city?s 52nd International Art Exhibition, running through November.

The house is powered by hydraulic cylinders, controlled by a computer located inside the kitchen island, Kalkin explained by e-mail. ?When you push a button, the shipping container opens into a six-room apartment with a kitchen, dining room, bathroom, bedroom, living room and library.?

looks good to me.

I agree!

I once saw a house sided with bottle caps, another with sea shells. In some parts of the US hoses are made from bales of straw, and some of sod. Around here a few have been buried into a hillside with only the front visible. Also, "manufactured" homes are becoming more popular.

I recall that "Granny Flats" are common in Australia. (These "cardboard" houses could serve that need.)

I agree.... sounds like a good idea.
