UPS breaks down my Power supply

Jun 8, 2007 6:42AM PDT

I am Using a UPS Protection System against power failures.
However this causes a power break down to my system very often.
To reset I have to close down the PC for at least,
5 minutes, and restart in order to operate again.
I have checked my electricity circuit by a technician,
and I was reassured , everything works properly.
Also I have replaced my UPS box with a new one.
But the problem is still persisting.
Please let me know, what else can I do to repair.
Thanks,
Regards,

sounds like your pc's power supply is bad

since it recovers after 5 minutes, it's probably over heating.

Hi!! Ramarc...

Re your Quote "since it recovers after 5 minutes,

In view that my PC's power supply drops down mostly
when the system is on a "stand -by" basis makes me
wonder if it can be attributed to overheating???

Instead can it be caused to an overflow of Electricity power
capacity by the Electricity Power Station,in which case the
UPS interferes by droping down the general circuit of the house.

Appreciate if you could recommend an application
utility by which I can check if my power supply
gets overheated, or it is caused by external reasons.

Thanks a lot,
Regards

Since you mention that...

it normally happens while in "Standby" it might be that your power settings need adjusting or that your BIOS needs updating or that you need to configure the UPS software (if you have it installed for monitoring and auto shutdowns).

Here's my thought. Sorry it's technical.

Many UPS's put out a not so nice SQUARE WAVE which devices such as light bulbs may never care. However if you had a PC that consumed say 350 Watts and your power supply was 350 Watts then that could push the power supply over the edge.

Fix? Double the PSU's rating. Try the biggest thing you can find.

Why? It's likely to be cheaper than replacing the UPS.
