Upgrading to hi-def set...concerned about the TiVo

Jun 29, 2005 4:19AM PDT

I'm tired of my old, small analog tv. I'm considering an upgrade to a hi-def set. I'm not going too crazy--thinking about a 26" or 30" direct view. My concern is that I have a dearly loved TiVo and am not sure what to expect when I'm watching a show in HD thru the TiVo. Searches on the TiVo forums have been largely unhelpful. I subscribe to Comcast digital service which increasingly has more and more HD offerings. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect in terms of playback and viewing quality of an HD signal that runs first thru the TiVo before going to the HD ready tv. Thanks!

Hello,

What is the make and model of your Tivo unit? Also, what is the make and model of your Comcast digital receiver?

Then I can help.

Had Tivo

If you are getting a widescreen HD TV--- I would switch from Tivo -- To comcast's DVR service---There are many shows on network and hbo that are in HD and Tivo does make a box but is 699$ --- Comcast equipment is free and will be able to record in HD--if you decide to keep Tivo with the current box expect recordings to be subpar not nearly HD quality--- I am sure in time you will get used to the Comcast dvr--- I switched from Satallite to cablevision for this same reason--- after 5 years with Tivo-- by the way the best direct view Tv is probably sony's 30 wide screen I think it is about 1000$ it is awesome-- good luck
