upgrading sony vaio from xp home to xp professional

Hi,
I recently got a vaio VGN-FS215Z (european model name not sure if its the same in the US) which came with pre-installed Windows XP Home. I need xp pro in order to network in college but I've been told that if i put XP Pro on the mechine the docking station and tv tuner (and general peripheral stuff) might not work. (When I rang the Vaio helpline they basically said "We dont support changing the operating system, you could try it but if it doesnt work we wont help you")
Has anyone had this problem? Is it true for the XP professional UPGRADE as opposed to the entire thing??? I don't want to buy the upgrade only to find it wont work. I'd really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Finding all those drivers from sony has proven to be more work than I'm willing to invest.
