Upgrading ram

Aug 26, 2007 2:57PM PDT

Hi. Just wondering for those of you who have upgraded ram. Do the shops offer trade in-s? My macbook now has 2 X 512 and I'm thinking of upgrading to 2gig ram which would mean 2 X 1 gig. Would this mean I have to buy 1 1-gig or I can exchange 2 X 512 for 1 X 1gig? Thanks!

Some shops do but you pay...

You pay for the 2x512 to the 1x1 exchange since many want to do that and there are few outlets for the pair of 512 sticks in some places. While I might recycle them into a PC there is a chance it could just sit there as newer machines have changed from sdram to ddr to ddr2 etc.

Upgrading ram

I deal with OWC, amongst other vendors, and a few months back when I was upgrading memory in several machines they offered to buy back the memory I was replacing when I purchased the memory upgrade from them. I'm not sure how much they were offering as I was giving the old hardware to a friend and I didn't pursue the offer. It might be worth an email to find out if they are doing that.
