Upgrading Optical and Hard drives

Oct 19, 2004 10:21AM PDT

I have two computers: one "Systemax?" and the other a "HP?, Model a230n". Both of these computers use Windows XP SP2, and AMD? Athlon XP processors. I have upgraded the drives several times, (Hard and Optical), on the "Systemax?", with no problems at all. I have also upgraded my video card, USB card, etc, etc, etc. all without a problem.

When I upgraded the Hard & Optical drives on the "HP?", the icons changed into a "Removable Disk" icon, and I can't change it back to they're on icons.
Also, AND THIS IS THE MAIN PROBLEM, after upgrading the CD rom to a DVD rom, if I try to copy a CD or DVD using "Disc Copier" from "Roxio Easy Media Creator 7

If you're trying to use the bundled OEM s/w that came with the orginal CD drive it won't work with the new CD drive. Otherwise, you didn't uninstall that same orginal OEM s/w and then use the bundled s/w that came with the new CD drive. I hope that's clear. Unless, you left something out, like is the CD s/w, retail version? etc., then it shouldn't matter but any previous CD s/w should be uninstalled and use its uninstall feature if so applicable, otherwise the add/remove of windoze.

good luck -----Willy

Thanks Willy!
To answer your questions: Yes, I?m using version of Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6, and Easy Media Creator 7, RETAIL versions. The computer came with the Nero OEM software, but I uninstalled it from the beginning. The new DVD Rom came with it?s own Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6, which I didn?t install. I even thought the problem was coming from, Musicmatch interfering with one of the Roxio?s programs; so I uninstalled all of them, including Musicmatch then installed one and try, another, and try again? all with no avail.
Would this help?

Thanks again ____ Domingos
