Upgrading Office software

I currently have a Tiny computer with Office 97 pre-loaded on it and Win 98SE OS and have just purchased a new laptop with Win XP that doesn't come with Office software. Can I just purchase the upgrade version of Office since I already have one version or do I need to buy the full version because I'm going from one OS to another? Can someone help me out? Thanks.

you'll need the full version. The upgrade version will check the presence of an old one, and not find it.

Depending on your needs, you might like to consider if the free OpenOffice suite (www.openoffice.org) suites you. No need to buy anything then, just download.
