If I was to do this, I'd get two laptop to desktop drive adapters (under 10 bucks) and clone the drive with Ghost, put the drive back in the machine and test.
It's doubtful anyone has done this procedure on your particular laptop, so do report back how it turns out.

Exactly how hard or easy is it to upgrade the hard drive in a laptop? I saw a nice IBM R51 that had everything i wanted (including price) except for the hard drive, which was 60 gb at 4200 rpm. I'd like to upgrade to 60 gb 5400 rpm and i was wondering how much that would cost, how easy it would be to do, and if any of the standard IBM hard drive protection systems would interfere with such an upgrade.
