I have a hand-on experience a few days ago. My friend just bought it and quite happy with the camera. I recently viewed the raw picture shot by a new D7000 through my licensed Nikon Capture NX. The noise level and dynamic range is not any different from that of D300S, very close to D700 and my D3S. What I really enjoyed is the full-HD1080 video feature. D300s is a good camera about 6 months ago. Today, D7000 has equipped with a new and better technology. The new matrix light metering II is quite superb. Besides, Expeed 2 processor is much more powerful. I see no reason why you wouldn't select D7000 your new camera. Good luck and enjoy your new camera.
There were some shots, tested by a serious photographer. Unfortunately, the narratives are Thai. This is a very good camera for wild life and bird shooting.

I've been itching to upgrade my dated Nikon D80. It has served me well through the years but I'm ready to move on. I have accumulated 3 DX lenses and one FX lens in my time so I'm sticking with the DX format. I've been keeping a close eye and researching the D300s and the new D7000 that just came out. I'm having a hard time deciding. I would appreciate input from someone who has handled both.
I consider myself an amateur photographer who enjoys taking action shots. I own one 2.8 lens,a 50mm 1.4, a 70-300mm zoom VR lens, and a 10.5mm fisheye.
