Upgrading from MCE 2002 TO 2005?

I recently bought a Dell Dimension E520 desktop with MCE. I just realised it is 2002 edition when i check it from the control panel >system. I also got a windows back up disk from Dell when i bought the computer and the disc says MCE 2005 with roll out update thing. The disc also says "this is already installed on your system". I ran the disc and noticed an upgrade/update option when i click install.

Should i upgrade it? Did they(Dell) make a mistake? Will i loose my data if it is only an upgrade from 2002 to 2005?

Please Help, Many thanks
