Upgrading BIOS

Mar 17, 2004 5:23PM PST

I wish to upgrage my BIOS so I can install a 40G hard disk. I thought these upgrades were available for free but if so they are very hard to find. Can anyone suggest where I might look for an Award BIOS?

I can buy one for US$24.95. Is that the usual rate?

Frankly, you buy one if you can't figure it out on your own... It's more of a service charge for the help.

All I've ever needed to know is the make/model of the machine or the motherboard or both.

Remember that some older boards will not have such BIOS updates and we'll see more pleas like yours since many BIOS don't do over 120GB drives.

$25.95 plus any s/h charges would be in line for a new bios.

Next, as for you doing the bios updates, just make darn sure you have the right one for your model mtrbd. Proceed to get any manual/guide for that process and "follow to the letter" the process don't cheapen or take short-cuts. If you do mess-up, then the $24.95 doesn't seem a bad idea afterall. Happy

good luck -----Willy

In most cases a bios upgrade is free.

Here are the steps.
ID the mobo you have make/model.
ID the bios level you have.
Visit the web site for the mobo maker and search around for something like downloads/bios.

You will need two things from the maker.
Bios flash util. (the prog that upgrades the bios)
Bios data file. (the bios level you want to go to)

Tha trick is to get it right the first time which means get the proper flash util and bios data file then read the instuctions, then read the instructions again.

Then it is just follow the instructions and it is done.

Or you can buy an updated bios which will get you a little piece of plastic with many legs (looks like a spider) and you will have to figure out how to remove the old one and install the new one.
