Question

Upgrading Android O.S. on Us Cellular (Samsung Mezmerize)

Dec 29, 2012 8:15PM PST

Trying to update this phone since it has an older o.s. to the current version and running into a wall. I have the software installed on the laptop and when I get to the screen that shows the phone and the computer attempting to sync the next key is grayed out. I should mention that I am using the usb cable that attaches to the cell phone charger and have that connected from one end of the phone straight to the usb port on the computer. I have tried both ports on the computer and I have also tried using the samsung update for the usb driver recommended on U.S. cellular website. I should also mention that this same cord does allow for phone to be charged when connected to the computer. Is there an in betwen o.s. that will allow me to take baby steps and maybe temp solve issue or any other thoughts?

Are you certain .......

....that the cord allows for data transfer, not just charging? Some cables only allow you to charge the device through the USB port. What version of Android OS was installed on your Samsung and which version are you trying to install over it ??

I am hoping that is the issue and hope to have a data cable later on. I am attempting update from 2.1 firmware to the most current version that was able to be obtained from us cellular on their website. I will post later if it works.

Might not be possible

Which version of Android do you want to update to?. For instance, you cannot upgrade a Windows 97 computer to Windows 8 without a major overhaul of the system components. Simply put, the phone might not have the required hardware for the update. Good luck though.
