Upgrading

Are there any reccomended hard drives or upgrades for a Compaq R3230? I am looking for around a 100gb HD and 1 gig of RAM, however I don't really know much about the RPM or cache that I should have. Can I just use any notebook hard drive and RAM or do they need to be special for my computer?
