Question

Upgraded from Win7 to Win10, Office Programs won't start

Sep 18, 2015 7:02AM PDT

Since I've upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 about a month ago, all of my previously working & legally bought Office Products (excel word etc) won't start anymore. I don't even get an error message: They just don't start.

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix this?

Thanks.

Not much new here.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled and applied service patches to bring such back. By not much new, saw this with prior windows upgrades.

How?
Sep 18, 2015 7:41AM PDT

How do you reinstall? I once had a problem where I wanted to re-install but it didnt let me because the licence was for only 1 PC and apparently they thought I was about to install it on a second PC...

In my cases I slip in the Office CD and reinstall.

If you say the Office license failed, that's a call to Microsoft to sort out. It sounds like an annoyance (it is) but the call usually goes well. I've yet to have Microsoft not sort out a legit license issue.

As to keeping installation stuff that happens to a lot of folk. How they deal varies but ordering replacement media is again done with MS. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/302822 notes that some have downloads, some are ordered.

It appears you have 2 issues to tackle now.

Thanks for the reply.

Ok, I just found the installation stuff again (And also the Key I got per E-Mail), but now the weird thing: I run the setup.exe for Office Professional Plus x64. Then I want to activate it, and put in the key - And get the message that the key is for Office Professional Plus, which isn't installed. What the hell does that mean? I just installed exactly that...

Never heard of that version. I wonder

If there is a typo there. Maybe the 2013 or year was left off. Look around the control panel to remove all prior versions and try again. But my bet is a call to MS may be required or a fresh download of some version is required. I'm not there to do this work for you but will share I've done many things to fix this, including calls.

Yes I probably forgot the 2013.

Well I guess I won't be able to avoid that call. Thanks for your help!

... And I'm apparently pretty stupid.

I'm not completely sure, but I don't think that I've kept the installation-stuff <.<

Typical lack of thinking by Microsoft

Typical responses. None which told how to correct the problem. Typical Microsoft. Oh! ah! we just let our customers dig and dig and dig around through all the blah, blah on the internet to find a solution. Refer it to one of their partners who wants to charge you to correct it, along with ads to get you to buy some more whatever. Wife's computer loaded up Windows 10, then Office 2010 Pro no longer opens or works. So I tried to use some other aps, like pictures, hoping we didn't lose them. What did I get? A pop over advertising Mario's Pizza, which there is not even one in this area. So I have to close an ad just to see my own personal photos?
No wonder people hate advertisers, they are too stupid to figure it out. Right after that, I get an automated dialer call from Direct Energy. Thanks a lot for waking my two year old grand baby from her nap. I called Direct and let them know what I thought. Now if I were still involved in my son's small business, and unable to access my word or excel files, that would be a real slap in the face.

I'd post about this on its own.

I recall an issue with 2010 that needed a service release or patch.
Note: Edited. Will be back with what that patch was.
