Upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista Ultimate

Oct 26, 2009 3:32AM PDT

I attempted over the weekend to upgrade my Vista Ultimate to Windows 7, using a disc package purchased at a retail store. After passing all the tests in the upgrade advisor, I was informed that I needed a clean install, as a result of Vista Ultimate *not* being supported by the upgrade.

I am trying to avoid a clean install. Is it true that Microsoft has stranded it's Vista Ultimate users?

you fail to mention which Windows 7 version you are trying to upgrade to.
Inplace ugrade from Vista Ultimate would require the equivelent Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit to 32 bit or 64 bit to 64 bit. You can't do an inplace upgrade to a lower version, or different bit rate.
