I've been partial to ASUS for quite some time and recently built my own Win7 machine around and an ASUS board. I don't game and opted for an i5 rather i7 but I did install the 64 bit option. So far, very pleased all around with hardware. I've also some experience providing volunteer support for a small school and do all the purchase and setup for the lab, classrooms, etc. We do use a local builder and all PCs are custom. The newer PCs there are built on Intel boards and have also performed well. I can say that, in the school, there hasn't been an ASUS or Intel board failure and I've been doing this for them about 10 years. I've only had one issue with an ASUS board at home having to do with USB failure but that's about it. Good luck.
In 2009 I built a Core2 Duo (E6600) desktop using Abit IP35 Pro LG775 MB. Later that year I learned that Abit was having severe financial issues. Recently, after attempting to get support for the MB, I learned that Abit dissolved later that year. Since I've decided to upgrade the OS, WinXP Pro SP3 to Win7 Pro, I'm considering going a big step forward by replacing the MB, and potentially the CPU to an I7 model, and RAM to DDR3.
I request any recommendations on MBs from your respective personal experience. Hopefully, this build will endure with MB vendor support for a bit longer than the Abit. Thanks for your assistance.
