What you bought appears to be a generic 16GB kit
Sep 12, 2013 1:07PM PDT

(2 SoDIMMs@ 8GBs ea) for a laptop, .

The link I sent is RAM that Kingston says 'works with your Toshiba Satellite U940-102.
There's not a lot of info re the RAM for your laptop however with what specs are provided...the specs appear to be the same as the generic. Looks like the kit you mentioned is 2@8GBs and the link I provided specifically is only 8GBs....you'd just need 2 to give you a matched pair and a total of 16GBs.

If it were mine... I might just head over to Crucial.com and see what they offer for your machine. You can have them scan your PC to see which RAM is recommended or you can enter the make, series and model and it will take you to RAM specifically for you laptop.

Bottomline....what these providers say will work in your laptop should work so I recommend buying the products made for your laptop rather than their generic DDR3-1600 SoDIMMs. Check'em out ....believe you'll get better service and support buying RAM specifcally for your laptop. If any doubt...call them, they'll be happy to answer any and all of your RAM questions.

Let us know how it works out.

A little about voltage.
Sep 13, 2013 12:24AM PDT

If you recall your PC design history, the newer designs are not fixed voltages to the CPU, RAM and other parts. And again, we have to recall more history about the SPD chip on the memory sticks that the BIOS reads on boot to learn about the RAM and configure the voltage regulator and memory controller.

I would be guessing you just needed a reminder on PC design.

Ram addition

Go to Crucial.com and do a system scan, this will tell you what you have onboard, how much and what type of ram is compatible with your particular system. This is a pretty simple procedure that many have used to determine what type and how much ram you need to do an upgrade.
