Resolved Question

upgrade graphics card on Dell inspiron 6000?

Dec 28, 2014 2:53AM PST

Hello, does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. My kids got Sims 4 for Christmas and want to use my old laptop to play. It has the 2g of RAM, but messages that graphics is outdated or under spec. I already tried to update driver, but is at max update. Thank you! I really cant afford a new computer right now.

Re: video card

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-6000/manuals has the service manual of this laptop from 2005.

Near the end it says there were 2 models: one with the video integrated on the motherboard (Intel Graphics), and one with a separate video card / thermal cooling assembly (optional, ATI Mobility X300). If you happen to have the first one, the answer is clearly no. If you happen to have the second one, there's a minimal (I'd say less than .11%) that you can order a somewhat more powerful variant than you currently have (say an AIT Mobility X600). But even then the costs of the card and the installation by a tech together would most likely be higher than the price of a better second hand laptop.

Thank you so much! I pretty much figured that it would be impossible, but didn't want to start looking for a used computer without exhausting the possibility.
