upgrade from Win/ME to Win/XP

Sep 27, 2004 11:24AM PDT

My son's at college with a decent computer running Win/ME (AMD 2400+, 480MB RAM) The IT office will loan him the XP disc and send a tech to the dorm if need be. I can't get him to move on it over the phone. It's a good deal, no? What are the main benefits?

"The IT office will loan him the XP disc"

What happens if something goes wrong? If he doesn't OWN and have a copy of the XP CD, there can be big problems later. If you have any doubts, read through some of the posts from people who don't have their XP disk and their computer won't start. Plus, many older computers can't be successfully upgraded to XP. If it ain't broke.........
