Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate

Aug 31, 2007 11:25PM PDT

I run a duel boot operating system ie:- XP 2005 MCE and Vista Home Premium,I am considering upgrading to Vista Ultimate, I have purchased the upgrade for Vista Ultimate but before I install it is there any problems I will encounter or has any-body any suggestion's. or tips on making the process as easy as possible.
I have 2gig of memory installed in my computer.
Also if after my upgrade is the process reversable if required.
Thanks
Linbeck

No problems...

Any software/hardware compatible with Vista Home Premium is also compatible with Vista Ultimate, so there are no major worries there. One thing I would like to mention, though, is that using the Upgrade option from the Vista DVD can take quite a while, longer than upgrading from XP, so give yourself plenty of time. (It took around 3 hours for my installation of Vista Business to be upgraded to Vista Ultimate on my primary system.) Also, it's not possible to reverse the upgrade process, though it shouldn't be needed.

Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate

Hi John,
Thank-you for comments on the above subject, if I decide to upgrade can you tell me what are the main advantage's to Vista Ultimate ie:- features etc over home premium, also you might be able to help me with another small issue I have with Vista home premium, the screesaver doesn't always kick in (I only choose a screensaver that came with the system ie:-Aurora).
Many Thanks in advance.
Linbeck.

Benefits...

There aren't a whole lot of features over Home Premium to garner your attention, but depending on your uses it may very well be worth it:
1.) Complete PC Backup and Restore lets you clone your hard drive, just like with Norton Ghost and Acronis TrueImage.
2.) Bitlocker encryption protects your data should your computer fall into the wrong hands by encrypting the entire data partition.
3.) Remote Desktop is fully enabled, letting you access one computer from another.
4.) Ultimate's Extras give your computer that little extra kick. For instance, current Ultimate-only extras include a Texas Holdem game, Bitlocker enhancement, and Dreamscape, which lets you use video desktop backgrounds/wallpapers.

As to the screensaver problem, keep in mind it works be waiting for XX minutes of inactivity. Wireless keyboards, networking adapters, and running programs could all be potential sources of the problem is they are generating what Windows determines as user activity. Disabling such one-by-one is, unfortunately, the only way to find out which, if any, is the ultimate cause.

Hope this helps,
John
