The SSD isn't aimed to help for game performance -- merely and overall upgrade from the stock drive, which has been loud and slow as of late.
If gaming is involved in any way, you'd almost certainly be better off staying with the MBP. You can always upgrade your RAM, and the video is nVidia based not Intel. Not only are the newer style MBAirs locked with a near impossible to find a screwdriver to take it apart screw (by design), there's also no way to upgrade the RAM. It's soldered directly to the MLB.
More than that, the MBAir is aimed at portability and battery life, not performance. I haven't had a chance to look at the service manuals for the new models, since they were just announced today, but I doubt the internals are really that much different from the current gen. In which case, I can say with a great deal of confidence that if you try gaming with an Air, it's going to overheat, and it's going to probably fry the CPU and/or GPU.
Regardless though, sounds like you want to replace that HDD.
