Updating to SP2 getting access denied

May 26, 2005 11:23PM PDT

During the install of SP2 all the new files are loaded but during the registry update the program stops and a new window appears saying Access Denied. Any idea's?

Sharing about when I ran into that.
May 26, 2005 11:27PM PDT

There were 2 scenarios.

1. I was not logged on as Administrator.

2. There was spyware damage to the machine.

Remember the removing spyware, trojans, virus and such does not repair all the damage. There could be PERMISSIONS that are not stock. Also, popup and other blockers could be in place.

Fix? Reload the OS if you can't dissect where the permissions are incorrect. Sometimes there is a clue in the EVENT VIEWER.

Win XP SP2

Mke sure to run a check on adware and also run anti-virus programs before installing SP2.You didn`t say if you ran it from a disk or the internet download . Best to order the SP2 disk from Microsoft(free) and wait to install from the disk in case there are any problems. Also need to disable all popup blockers.
