ZoneAlarm Free 6.1.737.000
by Brent Welch / November 22, 2005 7:48 AM PST

ZoneAlarm makes it easy. Unlike other personal firewalls, ZoneAlarm protects automatically from the moment it`s installed - no programming required. ZoneAlarm barricades your PC with immediate and complete port blocking. And, then runs in Stealth Mode to make your PC invisible on the Internet - if you can`t be seen, you can`t be attacked. ZoneAlarm is a software firewall solution and provides solid PC protection for the home user. It's free for personal and non-profit use (excluding government and educational entities). ZoneAlarm is compatible with Microsoft Windows 98/Me/NT/2000 and XP.

Currently Installed On One Machine Just Fine
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / November 22, 2005 8:53 AM PST

After the last ZA 6 problem, in order to upgrade from the previous version, I made sure to follow the steps below:

1. Download the new ZA 6 installer file to the desktop.

2. Open the currently installed ZA and UNCHECK the box to "Load at Start UP", then restart the computer so ZA is NOT running after the reboot..

3. Uninstall ZA from the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs section. Restart the computer at the end of the uninstall process.

4. Reinstall the new ZA 6 from the downloaded installer file following all restart instructions when prompted. (A couple of reinstalls are requested during the process.)

5. Re-do all settings including using all programs which require internet access and selecting the option to "remember" when "Allowed" or "Denied".

Hope this helps.

ZA Pro
by Alan Copeland / November 22, 2005 9:42 AM PST

Have they gotten the bugs out of the latest version on XP Pro? I am running version 6.0.631.003, and don't want to upgrade if the bugs aren't corrected.

I guess I will keep telling ZA to cool their jets for awhile longer. I just saw a post on the XP forum stating he had downloaded 6.1.737.000 a couple of days ago and had no problems.

and ALL the Security update sites, it was only released today but maybe the member in the XP forum got it early somehow. I have no idea because I don't use it. I never like to be one of the first myself with a new release of ANY program. LOL

New ZA UNSUCCESSFUL On Home Computer
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / November 22, 2005 11:06 PM PST

Just a heads up for other users...

Although I followed all the same routine options for a clean install on my home Windows XP HOME machine, I was unable to sucessfully install the new update..In addition, since I uninstalled the previous version before installing the new one, I was unable to reinstall ANY previous version of Zone Alarm..The installation continues to freeze at 12%-29% of installation because of a "glbX.tmp" file that it's trying to place on the machine and won't continue.. I tried cleaning out all "Temp" folders, manual uninstall of ZA, plus System Restore back to an earlier time, and each of these were attempted multiple times..No joy. Currently, the machine does NOT have ZA installed and I'm running the Windows Firewall..

I'll get it done eventually but be careful. LOL. Checking the ZA forums shows a number of users losing internet connectivity.

Hope this helps.

Finally SUCCESS On Home Computer..
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / November 23, 2005 1:13 PM PST

I finally was able to install the newest ZA 6.1.737.000 version on my home Windows XP HOME machine..After repeated attempts to uninstall and being foiled at every turn, I did a complete uninstall and clean-out of everything ZoneAlarm using the documents below..Registry clean up, file removal, deletion of all files in the Prefetch folder and all Temp folders, then restarting into "Safe Mode" and installing while in Safe Mode..

Complete Manual Uninstall Instructions For ZoneAlarm

How To Perform A Clean Uninstall of ZoneAlarm

Chiawaikian?s Secondary File and Registry Clean Up For ZoneAlarm

Everything is running well at this time.

Hope this helps.

REVIEW

Meet the drop-resistant Moto Z2 Force

The Moto Z2 Force is really thin, with a fast processor and great battery life. It can survive drops without shattering.
