Thanks Donna.
Their web site is pretty confusing for sure LOL. I had to register and their directions were confusing even though I knew which version I had BUT I figued it out and installed the new one without uninstalling the old one and installation was succesful. It just overwrote the original. I've even got a console thingy on the taskbar now that was there before not that I use Java for anything unless I happen to be on a website that requires it. LOL The update for my version was only 1.35MB. Thanks as always.

Donna, I've Had It Running For A Week or Two...
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / November 23, 2004 2:13 AM PST

The new "06" Java version has been out for a while and I've got it installed on a half dozen Win 2000 & XP machines. It installed over the top of the old version and is working fine on all machines that I've installed it on.

Hope this helps.

Whoa! Didn't know it was out for some time. We don't have update info here on it yet (in Cnet). Obviously missed it. What I got here is 1.4.2_05 only.

Thanks Grif. Happy

Roddy, the Java website is very confusing... by following Donna's links and a link from another post I was able to download the current version without registering. Somehow I resented the registration request by asking for all kinds of personal information that I consider of no concern to them.

I suppose free downloads may come with some baggage but Sun Java does not need all they want and with unrestricted cookies to boot.

Just my opinion!

I agree Glenn. I DID register but all I gave them was the stuff that they HAD to have (supposedly) and I clicked NO on all the other stuff. It's all done now LOL. Thanks.

I clicked on Donna's original link and also got the front page but I clicked on "register" because I had never been there before and once I registered, it took me to the downloads page. If you are still having troubles Mark, maybe you can try that.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
