We also learn never to have more than one anti-virus running at any one time.

I would certainly

follow Bob's link to use other anti-malware tools to check for malware.

But before that I would decide which anti-virus scanner you are going to keep then uninstall the other. If that other has a dedicated "Removal Tool" at their web site, use that, then reboot, (restart), the computer and try your Windows Updates again.

Only then, if they fail again, would I move on to the utilities in the link Bob gives.

Why?

Having two or more anti-virus scanners running at the same time can cause conflict as they both attempt to scan files at the same time. This may be why one of them is reporting a virus. If it is blocked from scanning data because the other anti-virus scanner is scanning it, then the first may treat the blocking as a deliberate attempt to prevent it doing its job. It may then prevent the Updates from installing.

So try that first.

You "believe" it was a virus. But there's nothing in this discussion that shows why you believe that. And your using the past tense ("was" in stead of "is") makes me think that you believe you have removed it already also. But you don't tell anything about the history if this issue.

All we can see is that - somehow - your OS is corrupted. A repair install might help. A clean install would certainly help. Get your files out on a safe backup and go for it!

But don't blame us if you copy all your files to an external hard disk only to find out it has failed when you try to restore your data again after reinstalling the OS. Be sure to copy it from that external to another PC before deleting the original data. A single backup is never a safe backup.

Thanks for response....I say "was" because no virus program...(ran 3) is picking anything up. Cab't restore computer either..Told you what error message was....do you have an install/download fix????
