UPDATES - July 26, 2005

Jul 25, 2005 8:22PM PDT

F-Prot

New virus signature files for F-Prot Antivirus have been
released. These files are dated 26 July 2005 and contain
detection for new threats.

To update the virus signature files please follow the
instructions below.

Windows users:
Connect to the Internet as you normally do and then open
F-Prot Antivirus. Click the 'Updater' button on the Info
menu, select 'Internet' in the menu that follows and click
'Update'. F-Prot Antivirus will then update the virus
signature files directly via the Internet.

UNIX users:
Use the check-updates.pl script (e.g. as a cron job) to
update the virus signature files via the Internet.

WinFix

I am far to scared to try to do anything that's been suggested here. I got a month old Dell 9150 that cost me and arm and a leg. If I stop using IE will this keep the WinFix problems from reoccuring?

No, WinFixer is causing your problem, not WinFix
Dec 5, 2005 3:10PM PST

You are calling this product WinFix but that is a mistake. The product that is causing your problem is really WinFixer, not WinFix. WinFixer is the product that advertises with agressive popup ads, and WinFixer is known as spyware/adware by the major antispyware programs. Please do not refer to this as WinFix - that hurts the reputation of WinFix. WinFix is not advertised with adware popups.

Just an FYI, not a flame.

You will have better luck starting a new thread rather than re-opening one that is nearly 6 months old and posting in the middle. Many people skip old threads, and if they do open them, it's hard to find a post in the middle.

I too downloaded fully and have the uninstall option but it does not work. It seems to carry the task out, asks you to reboot and then there it is back again.

Did you uninstall?

WinFixer Hell

An extremely abnoxious program. The easiest way to get rid of it is to pay for it. It will scare you into buying it by suggesting that your computer is at an extremely high risk if you do not. No idea if any of the suggested threats are real or imaginary. No idea if it even works properly or just deletes files you do actually need.
